Travel Wishlist: Tenerife

26 July 2016

Recently my social media feeds have seen an influx of beaches, palm trees, cocktails, and all things #holiday. I'm not going away this year, but looking at people's poolside snaps has had me thinking about where I would go if I could. There's so many places on my Travel Wishlist, but I thought I'd start with one I've seen A LOT of recently... Tenerife.

HOW TO GET THERE

Tenerife is in the Canary Islands, and is a four and a half hour flight away from England's (not-so) sunny shores. You can fly there from pretty much every city in the U.K

WHAT TO DO

In Tenerife, it seems like there's plenty to do for a lover of the Great Outdoors. There's hiking, beautiful beaches, and even some lava to gawp at. If I were to visit, I'd get on the Teide Cable Car in the Teide National Park to see the natural wonder of Spain's highest (active!) volcano. I'd explore the great canyons of Barranco de Los Arcos, from which you can see the whole of Tenerife. I'd take the boat over to the traditional La Gomera, and idle away hours soaking in the UNESCO-protected La Garajonay National Park. I'd watch the windsurfers on Playa de los Cristianos and El Medáno. Basically, I'd try and do it all!

WHERE TO STAY

I love the look of the Hotel San Roque, an 18th century mansion near Garachico Beach. Situated nearby is the Canarian baroque style Hotel Rural La Quinta Roja, which boasts jaw dropping views. Dreamy! I also would love to stay in the Parador de Las Cañadas del Teide, a mountain lodge with panoramic views of the volcanic cone, Çhaorra caldera and Montaña Blanca. Equally, there are so many beautiful looking AirBnbs!

WHERE TO EAT

Kabuki is a two Michelin-starred restaurant at the Abama Hotel in Guia de Isora. The cuisine is Japanese, and it looks unreal! Humboldt's Mirador is a cafe and restaurant with views of Mount Teide, which serves (as Budget Traveller says) some tasty but slightly odd combinations of foods, namely goats’ cheese and avocado or calamari with a fried egg. Tasca La Tate is apparently a "paradise for eco-foodies and vegetarians"! I'd love to try them all.
