a sunday kind of love #20

(Glass Vaults at Coastella)

Here are the things I've been enjoying this week:

01. Coastella
Yesterday we went to this festival out in Kapiti, and enjoyed the fruits of New Zealand's music scene. The weather looked set to be dismal, but brightened up through the day and made for a sun-drenched finale of the Bad Seeds on the main stage. My highlight though, would have to be Olmecha Supreme who notched up the energy, and the kids and grandmothers dancing together at Glass Vaults' set. My heart was officially warmed.

02. Dolly Alderton's memoir Everything I Know About Love
One half of my favourite pop culture podcast the High Low, Dolly's wisdoms on love focus mainly on the ever-glowing beauty of female friendship. Other truths she writes about so eloquently are self-esteem, identity, alcohol, and the quarter life crisis. Several parts resonated with me, but my favourite sentence? It would have to be: "I realised that places are kingdoms of memories and relationships; that the landscape is only ever a reflection of how you feel inside" - just one example of her descriptive, moving prose.

03. Ukelele
In January I bought myself an ukelele as a 'New Year New Me' act of ridiculousness, but I'm loving it. It's nice to find a hobby that doesn't involve being in the vicinity of a computer.

The musical genius controversially opens up about all sorts - from who killed JFK, to Michael Jackson stealing songs, and everything in-between.

05. Woyaya covered by This is the Kit and Anais Mitchell for a Valentine's Day playlist, and this version by Art Garfunkel.

06. J. J. Cale - Wish I Had Not Said That

07. Seeing England play New Zealand at cricket in Wellington this week was an experience. My knowledge of the sport has definitely expanded!

08. Salted caramel rum + chilli syrup + ginger beer = a mind-bending cocktail from my new favourite Wellington bar, C G R Merchant

09. It was Valentine's Day and Galentine's Day this week, which had me thinking about my beautiful female friends and how lucky I am to know them and have them in my life.

10. I'm excited for the New Zealand Festival which kicks off next weekend! Will you be there?
